Orthopedic shoes are required for children
Orthopedic shoes for children or European quality shoes are designed to shape and mold children's feet assuring proper growth and foot development. Orthopedic shoes are required for children in general not just those with specific feet problems. Every child should wear only quality shoes at all times since they correctly shape kids feet and assist in posture development. Quality, orthopedic shoes will definitely transform your child's feet and over time correct any walking problems. In Europe, children shoes are viewed as a "health product" then fashion therefore they are made to highest quality standards imposed by European manufacturing. In other words, if you buying "cheap", "non-orthopedic" shoes for your children it is guaranteed that your child will develop various feet deformities such as: walking problems (pigeon toes), flat feet, collapsed ankles and joints, pronated feet (ankles turning inwards), and later in adulthood back problems as well as pain of low extremities.
Major features of orthopedic shoes:
they correctly shape and mold children's feet
stabilize joints, ankles and knees
made out of best quality leathers

antibacterial leather innersoles that absorb sweat

flexible rubber soles with traction
Human foot and its mechanics
Human foot is composed of the most complex mechanic components of the body (bones, articulations, muscles and tendons) and carries lots of stress once standing and walking. Therefore, quality shoes are very important from the young age to late adulthood. When child is beginning to stand up and taking first steps the entire weight of the body is supported by feet therefore high supportive, orthopedic pre-walkers are a must for any small developing foot.
The bones are primarily foot's framework of support, the muscles are joined to the tendons, guarantee movement and the nerves transmit the unleashed impulse of contraction as well as the position of the body and any sensation of pain. The skin on the sole of the foot performs both a protective role and reacts as a receptor of stimuli. Having said this, and considering the importance and complexity of the evolution of your children's feet, we must mention the importance of specific footwear for each stage of development of a child's walk.
Footwear for babies
Shoes for babies who are not yet walking simply have to provide cover from the cold, humidity and give overall protection. Socks, moccasins or small booties that stay on little feet should be enough. Once you see your baby standing and taking few steps orthopedic slippers or leather supportive orthopedic shoes are needed (often called high-tops). The shoes give them proper support, flexibility and overall confidence to take first steps. The shoe must enable baby to feel the ground, gain confidence in order to favor proper development of nervous system and improve balance. Once child is walking independently the foot is subjected to greater stress (since the entire weight of the body is supported on little feet), kids need a shoe that prevents against possible injuries and offers greater resistance to wear and tear.
In Europe every pediatrician will recommend soft yet supportive orthopedic European slippers or supportive flexible leather high tops. WHY? Simply because the whole weight of your child's body puts a stress on little feet and once not supported they develop collapsed ankles, feet turning inwards and develop pigeon toes.
The best footwear choice for babies who stand on their own band learn how to take few steps are European canvas/slippers with orthopedic arch support. Those shoes are very light, soft with breathable material that will be sturdy enough to provide proper ankle support. The shoes often close with laces, Velcro or clips that properly stabilize the foot. Inside they have leather, orthopedic innersole with excellent arch support. Those shoes could be worn in a house or outside as a canvas. Orthopedic slippers are recommended for children up to 6 years of age. Those shoes are cute as they can be...my baby girl just walks so well in them that I am shocked that such caliber shoes ever exist....I threw my Stride Rites in a garbage since they made in China nowdays, can't compare them to those shoes. Cheap shoes made in China deforms feet over time so supportive shoes with good heel, arch support is a key here.....Europeans know what they making and their children wear only those type of shoes and they have no issues in walking not any feet condition. Read European Medical Journals on google you will be shocked what they say about shoes vs what doctors recommends here for our kids. - USA HAS BUSINESS OF ORTHODICS - MORE CHILDREN WITH PIGEON TOES, PRONATION THE BUSINESS OF ORTHODICS BOOMS
